Houston (November 1, 2010) - Writer Susan H. Burnell, APR was honored on October 29 at the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Southern Region 2010 Silve Quill Awards Ceremony in Atlanta.
Burnell received the Award of Excellence for writing a Forbes special section titled "Greater Rochester: New York's Home for Smart Business."
Research for the 3,000-word assignment involved interviews with corporate and organizational executives including leaders from Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, Wegmans, M&T Bank, area universities and technology firms, and the region's economic development organization, Greater Rochester Enterprise. The section appeared in the May 24 issue and continues to promote the region to a global audience via ForbesCustom.com.
Judges commented that the piece was "well packaged for the intended audience," contained "good writing throoughtout," and demonstrated "strong and creative implementation."

Silver Quill is the IABC Southern Region's annual competition for communications professionals, recognizing excellence in print and electronic publications, websites, video productions, communications campaigns and marketing products. The Southern Region has the broadest geographic representation in IABC, representing 14 U.S. states and four countries. The competition is open to IABC members and non-members and includes 27 categories and a student division. Winners were judged by communications peers in six different IABC chapters from across the country.
The 2010 Silver Quill Chair, Lesley Kriewald of the IABC/Brazos Valley Chapter, praised this year's winners for showing tremendous originality, ingenuity, and dedication to their organizations and clients.
"We had an outstanding group of entries submitted, which is a great testament to the high quality of communications work being produced throughout our industry and our region," said Kriewald.
