Greater Rochester Enterprise, a regional economic development organization, today announced the addition of Matthew Hurlbutt to its team. Hurlbutt will join GRE as managing director of business development.
In this role, Hurlbutt will work to attract new businesses to Rochester by promoting its plentiful assets specifically within the region's four key industry sectors: optics, alternative energy, biotechnology and food and beverage. Hurlbutt will work directly with corporations, as well as with national site selectors, who are increasingly called upon to help companies identify relocation and expansions locations.
"Over the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work with Matt on a number of occasions, and I have been impressed with his business acumen and ability to build consensus," said Dennis M. Mullen, GRE president and CEO. "Matt's background in workforce development and his deep knowledge of Rochester's highly skilled workforce will be a powerful asset as we work to grow the Rochester Region's economy," added Mullen.
Hurlbutt most recently served as managing director of Finger Lakes Wired, which represents 21 business, higher education, philanthropic, economic and workforce development organizations dedicated to transforming the Rochester regional economy. Hurlbutt also served as executive director of RochesterWorks Inc. There, he was responsible for overall management of the workforce development system.
"Matt brings to GRE considerable experience promoting the Rochester Region, and he has been an important agent in helping reinvigorate the Rochester economy. I am pleased to have him join the GRE team and help us attract new businesses to the area," added Mullen.
Hurlbutt is a member of Pi Alpha Alpha, the National Honor Society for Public Affairs and Administration. He holds a Master of Public Administration degree from the State University of New York College at Brockport and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science, State University of New York College at Geneseo.
