On September 28th Governor David A. Patterson announced that the Genesee County Economic Development Center (GCEDC) will receive a $3.9 million dollar grant from the Renew Rebuild NY Transportation Bond Act of 2005 and the Governor's Passenger and Freight Rail Assistance Program. The funding will be used to upgrade the short line rail in and around the Genesee County Agri-Business Development Park.
"I am absolutely thrilled with the announcement of the grant to support the Genesee County Agri-Business Park," said Steve Hyde- President and CEO of GCEDC. "This will fund Phase II of the infrastructure development in the park. It's a key piece necessary to make the 202 acre shovel ready park perfectly aligned with the needs of food processors and agri-businesses who the site is designed for."
This exciting news comes on the heels of Business Facilities', a magazine that specializes in corporate site selection, announcement rating Genesee County, along with Livingston County, as the second-best food processing region in the country. The award cited Oatka Milk Products and the Agri-Business Park, among others, as facilities that are able to utilize the region's natural resources to produce great products. The Genesee County Agri-Business Park was purchased in the summer of 2007 and offers the major infrastructure needed for food and beverage companies. The rail line will continue to increase the park's attractiveness to prospective businesses.
