Governor Andrew M. Cuomo today announced that in an effort to meet growing customer demand, commercial trucking equipment manufacturer EkoStinger Inc. will move from its current location in Henrietta to a new, larger facility in East Rochester, Monroe County. The expansion will create 53 new full-time jobs and retain seven existing jobs. The company moves to its new location on Despatch Drive this summer.
"Supporting and helping successful companies to grow in the region is critical to moving the Finger Lakes Forward," Governor Cuomo said. "By fostering a strong business climate we can ensure New York remains a leader in growing the innovation economy and providing new opportunities and jobs for Finger Lakes residents for decades to come."
Founded in 2013, EkoStinger Inc. manufactures a two-part aerodynamic system for tractor trailers. EkoShield is a Cross Member Cover that protects the bottom of the trailer keeping unwanted elements out while at the same time, increasing fuel economy. The EkoStinger Arrow, a mid-mount under trailer arrow, saves fuel and enhances safety by reducing mist and making driving easier.
Empire State Development President, CEO & Commissioner Howard Zemsky said, "Ensuring that manufacturing companies have the support they need to succeed is an important part of the Finger Lakes Forward economic development plan. Thanks to Governor Cuomo’s vision, New York State is busy helping companies grow and creating jobs throughout the region."
Parr Wiegel President and CEO of EkoStinger said, "Empire State Development’s grant will help EkoStinger grow into the dominant player in tractor trailer aerodynamics. The new facility will allow the company to produce and ship the EkoStinger throughout North America much more efficiently. The result will be more products sold and more people working in Rochester, NY."
To encourage EkoStinger Inc. to proceed with the project, Empire State Development offered up to $450,000 through the Excelsior Jobs Program in exchange for job creation commitments. The total project cost is a little more than $1.4 million.
EkoStinger’s primary customers include DeCarolis Truck Rental, Wegmans, Leonard’s Transportation, Bridgestone, Nestle, Ryder, Penske and Clinton’s Ditch Cooperative.
State Senator Rich Funke said, "I’ve had the opportunity to meet with Parr and the team from EkoStinger in the past and I’ve always been impressed by their innovative, economical, and environmentally-friendly mission. Their move to East Rochester is a welcome addition to the 55th Senate District and I thank EkoStinger for choosing to grow jobs and investment right here in our region."
State Assembly Member Mark Johns said, "We join with the Governor and the State Economic Development Team in welcoming EkoStinger Inc. to East Rochester. It’s great to see manufacturing coming back to New York especially when it is creating and retaining 60 new jobs in East Rochester."
Monroe County Executive Cheryl Dinolfo said, "Monroe County is proud to celebrate the success of EkoStinger Incorporated as a job creator. This company is a local success story, creating and retaining sixty local jobs. By expanding and generating opportunities for local workers, they are having a positive impact right here in Monroe County."

Accelerating Finger Lakes Forward
Today’s announcement complements “Finger Lakes Forward,” the region’s comprehensive blueprint to generate robust economic growth and community development. The state has already invested more than $3.4 billion in the region since 2012 to lay the groundwork for the plan – investing in key industries including photonics, agriculture and food production, and advanced manufacturing. Today, unemployment is down to the lowest levels since before the Great Recession; personal and corporate income taxes are down; and businesses are choosing places like Rochester, Batavia and Canandaigua as a destination to grow and invest in.
Now, the region is accelerating Finger Lakes Forward with a $500 million state investment through the Upstate Revitalization Initiative, announced by Governor Cuomo in December 2015. The state’s $500 million investment will incentivize private business to invest well over $2.5 billion – and the region’s plan, as submitted, projects up to 8,200 new jobs.
