The Renewable Energy Network of Entrepreneurs in Western New York (RENEW NY), a clean energy virtual incubator launched earlier this year, will host an open house on Thursday, Oct. 14. Business, government and community leaders, as well as the general public, are invited to attend.
The open house will take place from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. at the Rochester Institute of Technology High Technology Incubator, 125 Tech Park Drive, in Henrietta (at the corner of John Street and Bailey Road).
“This event will showcase early-stage renewable energy companies sprouting in Western New York,” said Larry Simpson, Director of RENEW NY. “We will also discuss the resources available to renewable energy entrepreneurs to help start new ventures and accelerate company growth.”
A dozen companies from Rochester, Buffalo, Syracuse and the Southern Tier involved in solar, wind, biomass and fuel cell energy will demonstrate their technologies at the event. Those companies include:
• Rochester Biodiesel, of Pittsford, will demonstrate biodiesel fuel production.
• Northeast Renewable Energy Resources, of Honeoye, Ontario County, will generate electricity from a trailer with a wind turbine, solar panels and an inverter in the parking lot.
• ENrG, of Buffalo, will showcase solid oxide fuel cell components and materials.
• Rochester Institute of Technology will demonstrate its activities with a micro-scale alternative energy system (including solar cell, electrolyzer, hydrogen storage and fuel cell), incorporating materials and research from the NanoPower Research Lab at RIT.
“RENEW NY is perfectly positioned to respond to Governor Pataki’s call for 25% of our power to come from renewable sources over the next decade, and to help implement the State's Hydrogen Roadmap,” said Peter R. Smith, President of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA), which provided the funding for RENEW NY. “New York is at the forefront of advancing hydrogen technology, and we are strategically positioned to play a leadership role in the nation’s transition to a Hydrogen Economy.”
The RENEW NY open house is one of a series of Rochester Entrepreneurship events in October, including the 8th annual Tech Entrepreneurs’ Week, which starts Oct. 21. Additional information is available from High Tech Rochester at (585) 214-2400 or www.htr.org.
